Are You Job Hunting in 2025?

I wrote an article last year about the surge in tech layoffs in 2024. The tech pandemic and its boom during this period ended up causing a massive crash in tech employment. There was also real fear and scepticism around AI taking over. But we’re (almost) in the year 2025 and we’re hopeful that the economy is trying to stabilise itself, especially regarding employment.

Over the past few weeks, I have seen various companies thrive, from funding announcements to the release of new products or services. This can only mean one thing: scale and growth. Companies that are going through their growth phase will need more labour to align with their business goals.

This translates to the following: get your CVs sparkly and ready because you could have an interview coming up soon.

If you’re job hunting in 2025, here are some main pointers that you need to know.

Do Not Use AI

It’s ironic how using AI in your resumes or your skills test is a massive detriment to your tech job, right?

Many people are making the mistake of using AI-generated content in their resumes, profiles and during their skilled test assessments. I understand that it’s the easy way out but it doesn’t always mean it’s the best way out. Your next employer already knows that ChatGPT can probably aid in your prospective job, but they want to know if you can do the job. This starts with your resume — if you have used ChatGPT for your resume, it’s an early red flag for employers that you are dependent on the AI tool due to your lack of experience or determination.

Be Yourself

In a world of AI tech and tools, we are constantly surrounded by automation and robotics. We’re starting to slowly disconnect from human connection which is one of the main elements that hold company culture and values.

You want to stand out amongst all of this, and the only way you can do that is by being yourself. If you are true yourself during conversations and interviews, the interviewer will be able to better determine if you are a right fit for the culture. You may also find out during an interview that you do not like the culture and want to look elsewhere.

The only way you can be confident when signing that contract is if you know you have 100% been your true self and secured the position without false pretenses.

Apply For The Job You Want

Do not apply for the job you NEED! I understand that the job market may not look great and that any job at this point would be useful in getting your foot in the door. However, you must be applying for jobs that you want, and this is for two reasons.

The first reason is that you don’t want to waste your time by going through an application process and onto the interview stage with a job that you don’t actually want. Be patient, apply for the job that is right for you and give it your all.

The second reason is that you could possibly be taking this opportunity away from somebody else who actually wants the job.

Reach Out On LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great social media platform that allows professionals from all over the world to connect and share their like-minded ideas. If you are somebody who is actively looking for a job you need to be on LinkedIn.

The only way to grow your career is by exploring different companies. The only way to understand the cultures of different companies is by checking out what they’re up to. Getting as much information on different companies and their day-to-day activities will help you gauge which job you want, going back to my above point.

Prepare For The Interview

Going back to my initial point of applying for the job you want: this is extremely important because it will help you spend time during the job hunting phase to prepare for the right interview. If you are applying for various roles, you will not know what kind of interview you should prepare for.

Once you are fixated on applying for a specific role which requires a set of skills and expertise, you will be able to use the job descriptions and e-learning platforms to help you prepare for your interview with technical tests and exams.

Wrapping Up

These have been 5 simple points related to job hunting… but 5 simple points that are effective as hell! Don’t go into the new year cramming your brain with hundreds of applications every day. Be specific about the job you want and prepare solely for that. If you have any other interview tips, drop them in the comments below!
